West Strawberry is arguably the poorest residential neighborhood on the island. For an island with a very low minority population, most of the black and immigrant residents of Strawberry live in this neighborhood, which is just south of wealthy Northern Heights. The neighborhood's major landmark is the high-rise tower located on its far west side, right by the water. The high-rise once served as an observatory, but after the plague, it became a squatter residence, and subsequently, the only jail on the island.

The most popular drinking establishment in West Strawberry is Shiner's, a local bar where residents gather to gossip about the latest news, and escape the close, poor living quarters in the neighborhood. Another popular bar in the neighborhood is The Dark Bar, a divey place where people go to get away from themselves and others.
